Play therapy is a structured, theoretically based approach to therapy that builds on normal communicative and learning process of children. Play is the language and the toys are their words. Through play in therapy, a positive relationship develops between therapists and children. This provides an emotional experience necessary for healing. Play therapy is especially appropriate for children 3-12 years old but can benefit any age group.

    Play therapy can help children:

    • Develop self-efficacy so they can feel more assured about their abilities

    • Learn new social skills

    • Develop better interpersonal skills

    • Cultivate empathy and respect

    • Learn to identify and express emotions in a healthy way

    • Learn and practice better problem-solving skills

    • Become more responsible for their behaviors

Research suggests it takes an average of 20-30 sessions to resolves issues of children referred to treatment. Some children improve much faster. Serious or ongoing problems can take longer to resolve. The family role in a child’s healing is important and opening communication with the family and the play therapist is an important aspect of play therapy.

    Who practices Play Therapy?

Play therapy requires extensive specialized education, training and experience. With the advanced training, mental health professionals may earn a Registered Play Therapist (RPT) conferred by the Association of Play Therapy (APT).

  • Hypnotherapy

    60 min session • $150/session

Hypnotic trance is a completely normal state, one you experience every day, perhaps while watching TV or driving a familiar route. It is a narrowing of attention so that distractions are shut out and a focused awareness is achieved. It is not a mysterious state, but a state that every person, with very few exceptions can easily reach. The conscious mind, which is the rational and analytical mind, is suspended for a time, while the unconscious mind, which holds all our emotions, our memories and our creativity, is more fully accessed to provide resources not usually available. Emotional blocks that you may not even be aware of are released. The trance state is similar to meditation.

A typical session is about an hour. In the initial session the therapist will discuss your reasons for pursuing therapy and what you want to achieve. The therapist will explain hypnosis and answer all questions. When you feel comfortable, the therapist will begin to work with the trance state in order to accomplish your desired results. People describe trance differently, but generally everyone agrees that it is a relaxing and pleasant experience. Many people are surprised that they continue to experience thoughts, hear sounds and even speak while in trance. You are aware of what is going on, you will not do or say anything that is not in harmony with your deepest nature.

Hypnosis can help with the following:
